CFIA Accessibility Plan 2026–2028

General Instructions

Thank you for participating in this consultation for the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) 2026–2028 Accessibility Plan. Your input is essential in helping us identify and remove barriers to accessibility in our workplace, programs, services, and operations.

Purpose of This Consultation

We are seeking perspectives from from persons with disabilities*, caregivers, and stakeholders about any barriers you’ve experienced when interacting with CFIA programs, services, or workplaces, to better understand existing barriers and gather ideas on how to remove or prevent them. Your input will directly shape the CFIA’s 2026–2028 Accessibility Plan.

The Accessible Canada Act (ACA) requires the CFIA to regularly consult with persons with disabilities, develop accessibility plans, and report publicly on progress. The 2026–2028 Accessibility Plan will build on the current Accessibility Plan and outline CFIA’s updated commitments, objectives, and actions to improve accessibility across our organization. This includes addressing barriers in policies, programs, services, and the workplace.

Through upcoming consultations, we aim to:

  • Engage persons with disabilities in a respectful, inclusive, and accessible way
  • Identify barriers to accessibility across CFIA’s operations
  • Gather insights to inform actions and priorities for the next Accessibility Plan
  • Build transparency and trust in the accessibility planning process

*The Accessible Canada Act defines “disability” as “any impairment, including a physical, mental, intellectual, cognitive, learning, communication or sensory impairment — or a functional limitation — whether permanent, temporary or episodic in nature, or evident or not, that, in interaction with a barrier, hinders a person’s full and equal participation in society”.
